Spread the Word – Dyslexia Awareness Day at the Texas State Capitol

vlcsnap-2016-09-08-19h29m28s240The Texas chapter of the Academic Language Therapy Association, or ALTA, is hosting a gathering to raise awareness of dyslexia among lawmakers, and the public.

Several bills have been introduced with respect to dyslexia this year, involving the training of in-service teachers, dyslexia therapists, as well as a bill concerning much needed resources for dyslexic students in the public education system in Texas. Stay tuned for more information about those items.

It is exciting that Dyslexia is getting more widely discussed. Though there is a long-standing dyslexia law in Texas, not all lawmakers know about dyslexia. Helping to educate them leads to greater knowledge and awareness for our kids. Knowledge leads to caring, and caring to action.

Help spread the word about this great event by emailing your Texas state representatives in the House and the Senate, and even the Texas State Board of Education member who represents you. Ask that they attend the breakfast and information sessions. To find your representative, click here. Simply forward the flyer to their office, and ask them to attend since dyslexia is important to you, a constituent.

Here is a sample request to cut and paste into an email:
